Bay of Fires, Binalong Bay, Tasmania, Australia

Situated on Tasmania's North East coast, Binalong Bay lays on the southern end of the famous Bay of Fires conservation area. A spectacular piece of coastline, blessed with white beaches and azure oceans it is best known for the orange lichen which grows along its rocky shore. Once home to communities of Indigenous Australians, the area received its European name in 1773 as Captain Furneaux of the Royal Navy sailed past, observing their numerous fires burning along the bay.
